Your number

A number for the business, not your cell.

Every BusyTel account comes with its own number. Customers call it, your assistant answers it, and your cell stays out of it. You can take a fresh number, point your current one at us, or move it over for good.

Get your number

Pick an area code, or bring the number you already have.

What the caller sees

Your cell number never goes out.

Callers see the business number, every time, on the way in and on the way back. There is no setting that leaks your cell, because your cell is never in the call.

A customer dials you (310) 555 0148, your business number
Your phone rings (310) 555 0148, so you know why it is ringing
They call you back next week The business number. Never your cell.

Three ways to do it

Take a new number, or bring your own.

Most people take the new number and never think about it again. The other two exist because a number printed on a truck is worth keeping. Every plan includes one number, whichever way you get it.

What the plans cost

Take a new number

The default, and live before you finish your coffee.

  • Pick your area code, we show you a number
  • Do not like it? Next one, as many as you want
  • Working the moment you finish signing up

Keep yours, forward it

For a number already on your truck, your van and your invoices.

  • Your number stays with your carrier
  • Forward everything, or only what you miss
  • We show you the exact steps for your carrier and phone

Move it over to us

For when you have decided this is where the number lives now.

  • Your number becomes your BusyTel number
  • Two to four weeks for most numbers
  • You keep it if you ever leave, at no charge

Forwarding

Everything, or only the ones you miss.

Both are invisible to the caller. They dial the number they have always dialed.

What happens at 2am

Send us everything

Your old phone never rings. Every call goes to your assistant, and you decide call by call from a text. This is how the rest of BusyTel is built to work.

Only when you miss one

Your phone rings first, the way it does today. If you are under a sink and do not pick up, the call rolls to your assistant instead of your voicemail.

Forwarding is a short code you dial once on your own phone, and it is different for every carrier. We look yours up and show you the exact keys to press, so it is not something you have to go and find.

Moving your number

What actually happens, and how long it takes.

  1. We check it can move

Before you fill in anything, we ask your carrier whether the number can be moved and what they will want from you.

  2. You confirm the details

Legal name, service address, account number, and a PIN if your carrier uses one. It has to match their records exactly, so we tell you where to find each one.

  3. You sign, once

One authorization, signed on your phone. No printing, no faxing, no PDF.

  4. We track it until it lands

Two to four weeks is normal, longer if your carrier drags. You can see where it is any time, and we are answering on your temporary number the whole way through.

Questions

Questions about numbers.

Yes, and we fill in the one you already use. If that code has run out of numbers, we offer the other code for the same area, which is what any new number around there gets these days. Your customers dial it the same way.
